Coronado Ferry FAQs
How long does the ferry ride take?
The crossing takes approximately 15 minutes between either downtown San Diego terminal (Broadway Pier or Convention Center) and Coronado Ferry Landing. The boat travels at a relaxing cruising speed across San Diego Bay, offering 360-degree views of the Coronado Bridge, naval vessels, and the skyline.
Where do I buy ferry tickets and do they expire?
Tickets can be purchased at automated electronic kiosks or ticket booths located right at the foot of each terminal pier. Credit cards, debit cards, and cash are accepted. Tickets can also be purchased digitally through Flagship Cruises online. Tickets do not expire and can be used on any departure run.
Is the morning commuter ferry really free?
Yes. Sponsored by the Port of San Diego, commuter runs departing before 8:45 AM on Monday through Friday between Coronado and Broadway Pier are 100% free of charge. No ticket or pass is required; passengers simply board at the dock on a first-come, first-served basis.
How do I get to Central Beach or the Hotel Del from the ferry dock?
During the summer season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), the free Coronado Summer Shuttle (MTS Bus Route 904) meets arriving ferries and provides free transit down Orange Avenue directly to Hotel del Coronado and Central Beach. Year-round, you can walk 1.3 miles down Orange Avenue, rent a beach cruiser bicycle right at the pier, or catch the MTS 901 bus on 3rd Street.
Does the Coronado ferry run in rain or foggy weather?
Yes. San Diego Bay Ferry vessels operate 365 days a year, rain or shine. The passenger ferries are equipped with enclosed heated lower cabins with large picture windows, as well as open-air top observation decks. In rare cases of severe gale-force harbor conditions, Flagship Cruises issues advisories.
