Event Planning & Visitor FAQs

Insider tips for parking, seating rules, and festival logistics.

What is the best way to travel to Coronado during major events like the 4th of July?
Take the San Diego Coronado Ferry from Broadway Pier (1000 N Harbor Dr) or the 5th Avenue Landing behind the Convention Center. Ferries run every 30 minutes, bypass vehicle queues on the San Diego Coronado Bridge, and cost just $8 each way (infants under 3 free). Once at Coronado Ferry Landing, the Free Summer Shuttle (MTS Route 904) connects directly to Orange Avenue and Spreckels Park.
When can spectators set out chairs for the Spreckels Park summer concerts?
Per City of Coronado park guidelines, blankets and lawn chairs may only be placed on the grass after 4:00 PM on Sunday concert days. No stakes, ropes, or tarps may be driven into the turf to prevent irrigation damage. High-backed chairs should be placed toward the outer edges of the lawn so everyone enjoys unobstructed sightlines to the gazebo bandstand.
Are dogs allowed at Coronado parades and festivals?
Leashed dogs are legally welcome along public sidewalks during parades and festivals. However, the Fourth of July celebration features heavy crowds, marching drums, sirens, and evening fireworks that can overwhelm sensitive animals. If bringing a pet, carry collapsible water bowls, keep to shaded perimeter walkways, and check pavement heat before walking.
How far in advance should I reserve hotel rooms for annual Coronado festivals?
For the legendary Fourth of July celebration, island hotels such as Hotel del Coronado, Glorietta Bay Inn, and 1906 Lodge routinely book out 6 to 12 months ahead. For the Coronado Flower Show in April and Thanksgiving holiday festivities, booking 3 to 6 months in advance is strongly recommended.
Where is the best spot to view the Fourth of July fireworks?
The official fireworks are launched over Glorietta Bay at 9:00 PM. Prime viewing locations include the Glorietta Bay Park grass lawn, Coronado Golf Course perimeter path, and along the bayside shoreline adjacent to the Coronado Community Center. Centennial Park also provides vistas of the San Diego Big Bay Boom fireworks across the bay.
